The flying update: Dragon Creek
This week I managed to get the classic dragon flying animation and all its accessories into the game. I also managed to get the player to enter the flying mini-game, which I have called "Delivery". In this game, the player guides the dragon up and down to avoid obstacles as they race to deliver mail. It's going to be a lot of work but flying on a dragon needs to be very enjoyable.
A lot of stuff needed to be in place for flying to work. You needed to be able to exit flying at any time. You needed to be zoomed out to see everything in front of you. Since flying animations are so much bigger, all my sprite code needed to be refactored. I still need to get the game mechanics coded, and I need to make a lot of art. When it's finished though, oh boy. It will make the battle code so much easier, and make for a nice scene for future trailers.
I also updated the pause menu, and made it so when you start a new game you are dressed in a randomly colored hooded robe. No more naked white player!
