Adding the cat dragon
This week I focused on getting all the dragons flying. The wyvern and the lung had their flying animations created and added to the game. Animation is a slow tedious process, but once the basic form is made for one dragon I can use them as reference for the others. This is how I was able to make the cat dragon so quickly: it shares so much of its animation with the lung.
The cat dragon? Yes! I tried posting in the r/dragons subreddit for the first time and tons of people from that reddit jumped on the discord to suggest stuff. I was hesitant at first, because when I tried posting in the indiegame subreddits or gamemaker subreddits I was either ignored, deleted, or insulted. Clearly I was going to the wrong subreddits as the support was huge. One of the migrating dragon fans suggested a cat dragon. I was skeptical but I figured it wouldn't take me more than an hour to make so I tried it out. I posted the flying cat onto twitter to get opinions and the tweet quickly exploded. I still think it is a bit bizarre looking, but the other dragons didn't get nearly as much hype. So I shrugged my shoulders, made all the animations, and gave it a rainbow sparkle trail (another discord suggestion).
I'm excited the discord is starting to become active. Talking with people about your game really helps motivate and produces things you wouldn't have considered otherwise.
